Treviso secured a 27-22 victory to condemn Michael Bradley's men to their third consecutive defeat, and Back - a World Cup winner with England - is looking to end that run by instilling a tough edge into his side.
The 43-year-old former flanker, who turned out for Leicester Tigers for 15 years, has revealed he will be focusing on changing the Edinburgh ethos.
"The winning mentality is everything," said Back.
"We've got to build a more ruthless squad that is smart under pressure and makes good decisions under pressure.
"Thus far this season we've tried a number of miracle passes which is not winning football.
"We've got to build pressure, not just on the opposition but also on the referee to give you decisions and not the other way around."
