The Scarlets are still in with a chance of reaching the top four and therefore the RaboDirect PRO12 play-offs but need to win their remaining two matches and hope other results go their way.
With Wales' tour Austraila in June on the horizon, Scarlets will consult Warren Gatland and his staff before deciding whether Davies, who started all of his country's Six Nations matches en route to the Grand Slam, goes under the knife.
And Scarlets coach Nigel Davies admitted he's torn as to what cause of action would be best.
"It doesn't look likely Jon will be available now," said Scarlets coach Nigel Davies.
"He's gone to see a specialist for a consultation on a sports hernia.
"After that consultation we'll know where he is. There's two courses of action, either we can rehab him and get him available in the next couple of weeks or the other option is that he gets an operation done.
"That's a three-to-five week rehab. I can't see him being available for us for the rest of the season."
