A Warriors win at Musgrave Park would edge the Scotstoun-based side a step further towards securing a play-off place whilst condemning Munster to their third successive loss on their own turf.
But Gray knows the champions' recent defeats at the hands of Leinster in the PRO12 and Ulster in the Heineken Cup will only serve to stoke their fire for the fight this weekend.
"It's a huge game and it really is a statement about where Glasgow Warriors are," Gray told the Herald.
"If we could get a win from this game it would show how serious we are about the play-offs and getting to the final and winning it.
"But we know how hard the challenge will be coming up against Munster who are coming off the back of two losses at home - which is unheard of over there.
"So they will be giving everything they've got in this game."
With Gray leaving his hometown club for Sale Sharks at the end of the season he admits every game takes on a greater personal importance as he seeks to end his four years at the club with the RaboDirect PRO12 title.
"Glasgow Warriors has given me everything in a sense . . . the coaches, players and fans have given me so much over the years. I want to do my best to repay them," added Gray.
"Every time I go out there I want to do my best in the jersey. I don't want to leave here in a bad light."
