And Barclay insists that he and his teammates will use Edinburgh's achievements as inspiration at Firhill as they bid to end a four-game winless run against the Irish outfit.
"The Heineken Cup is a big competition and Edinburgh have done well in it this season," Barclay said.
"And we haven't done any damage in it which is a big disappointment.
"But, we have shown a consistency over 20-odd games, with the best defence in the RaboDirect PRO12, good wins away from home and we won the 1872 Cup, which is pleasing.
"Edinburgh have done something special this year, and we always want to do better, so the Heineken Cup is definitely a big aim for us next season.
"With the squad we will have, there's no reason why we can't emulate what they have done.
"And that will start on Saturday and reaching the play-offs. People are saying we have one foot in the door because we just need two points, but if we don't win and Scarlets beat Cardiff or Ulster beat Munster it could be the end for us. No play-offs. But win and we will not only be targeting a semi-final but also a final."
