Considering the Scotland squad contains four previous captains in its ranks, in Kellock, Mike Blair, Chris Cusiter and Rory Lawson, you could expect some jealousy within the camp.
But Kellock, who was handed the captaincy ahead of the World Cup before it was taken away from him after just one game, has dismissed this, insisting he and Ford are only rivals when it comes to the RaboDirect PRO12.
"Big congratulations to him - he's the top man for a big job," he said.
"I am not disappointed that it has gone for me. I am just honoured to have had the chance."
