Former Bridgend Ravens coach Tandy, who at only 32 becomes Wales' youngest regional head coach, was a senior member of the Ospreys squad until 2010 - the same year Tipuric made his senior debut.
And the 22-year-old, who would have started for Wales in place of the absent Sam Warburton against Scotland on Sunday had he not injured his ankle, believes Ospreys are in good hands.
"Steve was the openside at the Ospreys when I was coming through and he was brilliant to me to be honest," he said.
"He is a great guy and it is exciting for him.
"I was lucky to have Steve and Marty Holah when I came in. Marty was good on the defence and Steve was more attack so I was lucky to have both.
"That helped me because these days sevens have to be good at everything.
"I think all the boys will love to have him. Obviously it is a loss to lose Sean and Scott but that is part of rugby."
Tipuric was also quick to express his sympathies with Johnson and Holley, claiming the duo will be sorely missed.
"Sean and Scott have been great to me and it is a bit gutting to lose them. But we have Steve coming in and hopefully we can help him in an exciting period," he added.
"I learned so much from Sean and Scott and it was a bit of a shock when we found out."
