With all eyes on North and his stunning display in Wales' 23-21 win over Ireland James was clearly anxious to show the Kiwi just what he is missing by helping the RaboDirect PRO12 side see off their English rivals 45-40.
But it was not merely the James show at the Cardiff City Stadium. After 16 months out with a knee injury Kiwi Ben Blair made his home return at full-back and contributed 15 points.
With the Blues having no chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Anglo-Welsh competition on paper the clash was no more than a dead rubber.
But the morale-boosting win will no doubt send James and co. into their first RaboDirect PRO12 fixture in over a month against Connacht this Friday with confidence sky high.
