Robinson uplifted by Paterson's progress

Paterson, who became the first Scotsman to win a century of international caps, is currently recovering from a substantial kidney injury suffered in the heartbreaking defeat to Wales a week-and-a-half ago.

The veteran goal kicker returned home from Cardiff at the weekend after medics decided he had recovered sufficiently enough to leave the University of Wales Hospital.

"It was uplifting to speak to Chris and hear first-hand that he is feeling better," said Robinson, who coached Paterson during his time in charge of Edinburgh.

"Once again, on behalf of the Scotland team, I want to thank our own medical team, the Welsh Rugby Union medical personnel at the Millennium Stadium and all the staff at the University Hospital in Cardiff for the quite magnificent care they have delivered."

Although Paterson is expected to be sidelined for a total of at least 10 weeks, Scotland doctor James Robson was equally positive in his assessment of Paterson's progress.

"Mossy (Paterson) was discharged from hospital in Cardiff on Tuesday night," added Robson.

"He has rested for a couple of days further in Cardiff and is well enough to travel home with his wife Claire, which is excellent news."
