Wright avoids end of season heartache

The in-form prop forward had been in danger of missing the May 29 showpiece after he was cited for an alleged punch during the Play-Off semi-final win over Munster.

Wright was charged under law 10.4 (A) of the IRB rulebook for an alleged punch on Munster flanker Alan Quinlan in the 25th minute of Leinster's tense 16-6 win in Dublin last Saturday.

Any sort of ban would have prevented the Cook Islander from facing the Ospreys at the RDS but Wright escaped punishment from an Irish Rugby Football Union Disciplinary Panel which met in Ulster yesterday.

Wright was found to have engaged in act of foul play but, as the incident was not deemed to warrant a red card, no sanction was imposed.

In a separate incident that took place in the same match, Munster's Nick Williams was cited for an alleged stamp on Leinster's Jonathan Sexton in the 20th minute of the game.

Williams was cited under law 10.4 (B) but, like Wright, his conduct was not deemed to warrant a red card and he too avoided punishment.
