Moffat proud of Murrayfield record

Moffat's men won all three home fixtures against English, Irish and French opposition in this year's Heineken Cup.

And while it wasn't enough to secure qualification for the knockout stages, Moffat does believe the Scottish capital outfit have made significant strides forward so far this term.

"The three home wins were a decent return for the European campaign," said Moffat.

"Obviously we wanted to qualify - that was the main intention.

"But we did win our three home games which is better than we did last year and a step forward."

Those Murrayfield victories over Bath, Ulster and Stade Francais showed that Edinburgh can compete with the best sides on the continent.

Saturday's 9-7 triumph over the Parisian giants was preceded by a 9-6 win over the English aristocrats and a 17-13 victory over their Magners League colleagues from across the Irish Sea.

But it was their form on their travels that proved to be their European downfall.

Unlike in the Magners League where Edinburgh have won three of their five fixtures outside Murrayfield, the Heineken Cup saw them lose all three away games.

Moffat's side only picked up one point in the travels as they fell to 31-7, 16-9 and 21-13 defeats to Stade, Bath and Ulster respectively.

"We didn't play particularly well in our away games, although we had chances to win at Bath and at Ulster," admitted Moffat.

"In the end, it was those results and performances that stopped us from qualifying."

Moffat will hope that such disappointing form on the road doesn't carry over to domestic action when Edinburgh travel to Munster in their next installment of the Magners League season on February 19.
