Play-off spot the sole focus for Dragons

The Dragons currently sit in seventh place in the league table but they are just three points away from a coveted spot in the top four.

Paul Turner's men have silenced their critics on numerous occasions so far this season, winning five of their first 10 fixtures and beating three of the league's top-four sides.

And with their Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup dream now over for another season, Dragons centre Rhodri Gomer-Davies is all set on being involved in the end-of-season Magners League shake up.

"It's about finishing as high up in the table as we can and getting into the play-offs at the end of the season," Gomer-Davies told the South Wales Argus after their narrow European defeat to Glasgow on Friday.

"Perhaps the other teams were expecting us to be the fourth Welsh side again, but we are not.

"We had a tremendous start to the season, then dropped off with injuries to key players, but they are coming back now."

And despite having been on the wrong end of a 29-25 scoreline at Firhill in their last outing, Gomer-Davies believes the performance shows that the Dragons have plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of what should be a hugely-exciting Magners League run-in.

"After a very difficult end to the year I think we turned the corner against Glasgow," added Gomer-Davies.

"I don't know what happened in the first few minutes with our accuracy, we made one mistake after another and we were 12 points down in no time.

"But from there we showed a lot of character, and though we still made a lot of mistakes and missed tackles we hung on in there and in the second half we controlled territory and possession."
