Blues should not be in this position says coach

The Welsh capital outfit currently lie seven points off the play-off places having played at least a game more than all bar one of the sides above them.

And with just four league wins to their name in 11 attempts, Young admits that his side's current showing is simply not good enough.

"We shouldn't be in this situation when you look at our squad," said Young, after the Blues slipped to a 21-12 defeat at Edinburgh on Saturday.

"We shouldn't be in this position and we shouldn't be losing games like we are. I know we cannot win every game, but we are losing games when we have created enough chances to win the game.

"We should have at least have come away with a losing bonus point to Edinburgh and that bonus point could be massive at the end of the season.

"We have the ability in our squad to come to places like this and win."

After a 26-0 drubbing at the hands of local rivals the Ospreys last time out, the Blues travelled to Murrayfield knowing an improved performance would be absolutely vital if they were to close the gap on the top four.

But Young was left with little positive to say after the Blues finished second best to an Edinburgh outfit who came into the game on the back of successive league defeats.

"I don't know if frustrating is a strong enough word, if I am honest," added the former Cardiff, Wales and Lions prop.
"We made too many turnovers, didn't take opportunities to attack and just get kept spilling the ball.

"So, for large periods of the first half, we were camped in our own half due to our own mistakes.

"What we did do in the first half was show what we could do and that we could cause them problems. The problem was our accuracy.

"We talked about all of that at half-time and whatever we said fell on deaf ears because from the kick-off, we kick out on the full, given them a lineout and they score a try.

"We had talked about having a big start to the second half and that wasn't what we planned. Most of the second half was us trying claw ourselves back into the game."
