Edinburgh gain mighty French scalp

Last season's Magners League runners up secured a 9-7 victory over one of the continent's most fancied sides as they made it three wins from three in their home fixtures.

And while defeat at Ulster last weekend all but ended their European involvement for another season, this deserved victory has seen them go out on an almighty high.

Three penalties from full back Chris Paterson was enough to secure a hard-fought win over a side packed with international talent.

Paterson struck twice in the first 40 minutes and once in the second as Edinburgh overturned a 7-6 half-time deficit.

Stade lock Pascal Pape crossed for the game's solitary try three minutes before the half-hour mark but Edinburgh showed the greater desire despite knowing that Heineken Cup quarter-final qualification was already beyond them.

Edinburgh will now turn their attentions back to Magners League action and a mouth-watering trip to Munster next month.

Rob Moffat's men currently sit third in the Magners League standings, following a 25-12 victory over Cardiff Blues last time out.

Edinburgh are just two points off league leaders Glasgow Warriors, although Edinburgh have played a game more than their Scottish rivals.
