The Irish province sit a point above the Ospreys in a tight Pool 3 in Europe, with all the sides having registered just a solitary victory from their opening two games. Munster's try bonus point against Toulon gives them the advantage ahead of the crunch fixtures.
Tony McGahan's side will be boosted by the return of Paul O'Connell who made his first Magners League appearance of the season from the bench against the Blues last weekend.
O'Connell will line up in the boiler room against British and Irish Lions teammate Alun Wyn Jones on Sunday and the Welshman was full of praise for his opponent.
"When Paul comes back in he'll have to be firing on all cylinders because we're going to Thomond Park for the win," said Jones.
"Having played with him during the Lions tour of South Africa, I know first hand what a team man and professional he is.
"In every great team there are great team men and he is one of those both on and off the field. They have Donncha O'Callaghan and other very good second rows.
