FIR's and Aironi's decision to include Mr Guidi in the staff, led by Welsh head coach Rowland Phillips, is part of a cooperation and exchange plan that constitutes a core element of Italian rugby and plays a key role in the development process aimed at taking the Azzurri team
to the top level of the International Game through participation in the Magners League.
"A strong technical cooperation between FIR and the two teams involved in the Magners League is crucial in our development project - Giancarlo Dondi, FIR President, said - and the appointment of Gianluca Guidi as Aironi Rugby backs coach clearly shows how we intend to proceed. We are very happy for Gianluca, a young and well-qualified coach, whose growth and development took place within our Federation and who achieved prestigious results in his career so far. We are confident he will provide a substantial contribution to Aironi and will gain significant experience in terms of development in his high-performance coaching career".
"We are happy to welcome on board such a well-prepared coach as Gianluca - Aironi's Director of Rugby Franco Tonni said - and there is no doubt he will be providing our backs with a very precious input".
"The appointment as Aironi's backs coach - Gianluca Guidi said - is a very exciting task and I know it represents a huge opportunity to test myself in the context of the Magners League - indeed a significant rugby scenario at the top level of the Game. As Italy "A"'s head coach I'm fully committed to working on a daily basis with athletes who could be joining our "A" team in the forthcoming winter Internationals. I'm sure cooperation between FIR and Magners League teams will provide strong, positive feedback for all our stakeholders".
