After a promising start to the season with victories over the Dragons and the Warriors in their opening two games, Connacht have struggled in recent weeks.
Elwood though believes a victory this weekend can lift the confidence ahead of the festive period.
"We need to get a win under out belts this weekend to get confidence before going back into the Magners League with two derby matches against Munster and Leinster and a crucial game against the Dragons," said Elwood.
"We're doing a lot of good work in defence but the offensive side of things is a bit frustrating at the moment.
"Derby matches in the Magners are very important to everybody. We've got two big ones against Munster and Leinster.
"It might be exciting for the supporters but for us they're quite demanding. They're big fixtures and there's no rest now. We've got the two derby matches and then a five-day turnaround to play the Dragons. It's tough going. It's enjoyable if you win them, though.
"We have a lot of young players and it's part of their development. At least we're competitive every game this year. We're going to stick by our guns because we actually believe that the stuff we're doing is right.
"I'd like to be winning more than we're losing but I've got to stay positive and keep instilling the belief in the lads that what we're doing is correct. Hopefully we'll turn the corner sooner rather than later. We're doing a lot of good work in defence but the offensive side of things is a bit frustrating at the moment."
