But Godman now has the chance to remind his national boss of his own abilities when he starts tonight's non-cap international against a Japan Select XV at Murrayfield.
"Dan did really well during the Six Nations," said Godman after Parks and a number of other Glasgow players were given extra time to recover from their run to the Magners League Play-Offs.
"The shirt is his at the moment, but Andy has picked a really strong team here so it is a huge opportunity for me to remind him of what I am capable of.
"All I can do is concentrate on my own game and looking to play consistently on a weekly basis.
"Overall it has been disappointing personally, but this tour is something I can get my teeth into.
"We're training hard with 15 against 15, but there is no doubt that it is beneficial to get a game like this in the national stadium to get a real feel of how we are shaping up.
"Getting a rest over the Six Nations has probably helped me and I'm raring to go now."
