Manu had been at the centre of a tug-of-war between Wales and Fiji as the two sides fought hard to secure his services late last year.
Having qualified for Wales on residency grounds, Manu was tipped to step into the breach for Warren Gatland's men during the autumn internationals but instead decided to opt for the country of his mother's birth and a possible World Cup spot next year.
And despite having only won one cap for the South Sea Islanders so far, Manu has made such an impression that he has already been given the captain's armband for the Canberra-clash with the Wallabies.
"It's my first time as captain and it will be a proud moment for me and my family," said Manu, who will take over the Fijian captaincy from Seremaia Bai for the one-off international clash in the Australian capital having featured in 15 of the Scarlets' 18 Magners League games this term.
"I have not been long involved with the Fiji squad. But we are a close-knit group and being given the captaincy is something very special for me.
"It was a decision (to play for Fiji) I did not take lightly. I spoke to my friends and family at length over it.
"But the decision I came to is one I am comfortable with. I feel I can add something to this team and I'm really excited by the opportunity.
"It would be nice to deliver a performance on Saturday night."
