Born in Brisbane, but raised in New Zealand, Taylor played for the New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 19 teams before graduating into the Otago NPC team in 2006. He then joined the Highlanders Super 14 squad a year later and went on to play Taylor debuted for Otago in 2006 and played for the Highlanders in 2007.
He made his Super 14 debut against the Lions in 2007 and made eight appearances for the New Zealand outfit before a knee injury wrecked his 2008 campaign. In 2009 he transferred to Queensland Reds, making eight appearances in another injury ravaged season.
He played seven times for the Reds in the 2010 Super 14 competition and has recently combined his rugby with studying to become a fitness trainer. He has also partially completed a Bachelor of Arts in Pacific Studies from Otago University.
