The Irish skipper was almost given the green light to play in the Heineken Cup clash with Saracens, but was given another weekend to recover ahead of Ireland's four Tests next month.
But Leinster coach Joe Schmidt revealed after hi side's 25-23 win over Saracens that his star centre could get a run in the Magners League derby against Connacht this weekend.
"We have got a couple of tough games coming up in the Magners League and we will park the Heineken Cup until December," said Schmidt.
"There is really good news on Brian. He was on the edge of selection for this weekend but, he is the Irish leader and we wanted to do the best by him and the Irish side ahead of the autumn internationals.
"He might still get a run out against Connacht because he is felling pretty good. If not, he could be a little bit short of match practice and might get a run against Edinburgh."
