But the 23-year-old is tired of being seen as a youngster with potential and wants to establish himself as one of the world's leading second-rows.
"Last season was a great learning curve but I am under no illusions about where I am," said Davies, who will be making his 50th Magners League appearance next time out.
"I still have a lot to learn and can develop further. I'm training hard and want to improve year on year.
"It's nice to test yourself against the best in the world and come out with your head held high. But you're only as good as your last game and I'm looking forward to proving I'm still a good player on Friday.
"I don't want to be seen as a young player, I want to be an established player."
And Castres provide another huge test for Davies with a colossal second-row unit that includes 6ft 8ins Scotland lock Scott Murray.
"Scott's been there and done it. He's a great player. I watched him as a kid and thought he was outstanding. He's a great line-out technician and works hard at that part of the game," added Davies ahead of what he hopes will be the Blues' sixth victory in seven games this season.
"As a second row you're in the mix and you have to front up or you're shown up. It will be a big challenge for me but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.
"Castres is a hostile place to go and play rugby. I think they will really try to target us over there. We have to control possession, keep hold of the ball and defend well when we haven't got the ball.
"It's been nice getting the plaudits from the press this year but we have to prove it on the pitch. It's a huge challenge personally and collectively."
