"It has been frustrating coming on the back of a good year and I have not had as much game time as I would have liked," said Laidlaw.
"Hopefully I can change that.
"If there is any chance of me playing in the Autumn Tests I need to be playing for Edinburgh in the next couple of weeks. That is the goal I'm focusing on.
"I'm not stupid, I know Mike is a quality player and it's not easy for the coaches.
"For me, it's about taking the chance and doing everything I can to help us beat Ulster, and keep the jersey."
