England wing Cueto has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal that will see him remain at Edgeley Park until 2013.
And director of rugby Kingsley Jones would like to believe that the 2005 British & Irish Lion's decision to commit his future to the club will encourage others to do the same.
Half-a-dozen Sale stars are out of contract at the end of the current campaign, with three players in particular being seen as potential targets for Magners League clubs.
Welsh trio Dwayne Peel, Eifion Roberts and Lee Thomas can talk to other teams from January 1 and all three have supposedly attracted interest from across the English channel.
And, while Jones himself has admitted that Peel's determination to become an international regular once more may affect his decision to return to the Magners League, the former Wales flanker is optimistic that he can keep hold of his players.
"Hopefully Mark's new deal will be the first in the line of a few guys who will be out of contract at the end of the season," said Jones.
"As I've stated before, we're not pushing on with starting discussions too soon, particularly this early in the season, but Mark felt he wanted to know what he was doing going forward and was more than happy to do his deal now.
"And I think it could be a catalyst for the other boys. They've seen the commitment from both Mark and the club and, hopefully, as a result those guys will decide to follow suit.
"There's about half-a-dozen other players affected and some need to be spoken to before the others, not only for the club's benefit but for theirs."
