The Maesteg youngster was in line for his senior international debut on the tour after catching the eye of selectors with his form during the latter part of the season, only to suffer an Achilles injury in training that meant he was left behind when the squad left their HQ at the Vale Hotel.
However, having taken the chance to assess the injury, Ospreys Physio Chris Towers was able to put the player at ease. He said:
"Gareth suffered a small tear above the Achilles tendon. It's a minor issue that takes around 14 days to settle, so although it's not serious, it is just extremely unfortunate timing. Gareth will report back with the rest of the squad at the end of June and will be able to play a full part in pre-season training."
