The 32-year-old loose head underwent minor heart surgery in a Dublin hospital last week after complaining of feeling dizzy during his side's Heineken Cup win over Benetton Treviso last month.
The operation has definitely ruled out the Grand Slam front rower from Ireland's three Guinness Series Autumn Internationals, against Australia, Fiji and South Africa, but he should be able to return to Magners League action after Christmas. But the operation does mean he will miss Munster's Magners League trip to the Ospreys on 5 December and, most likely, the Boxing Day derby with Connacht at Thomond Park and the trip to Ulster on 2 January.
"Following further tests, Marcus Horan underwent a routine medical procedure and will undergo a period of rest over the next number of weeks. It is expected that he will be available to Munster and Ireland after the New Year," an IRFU spokesman said.
